Fleece is mainly divided into three categories by weight, or density. It is lightweight, medium and “heavy”. It is usually labeled as 100, 200 and 300 fleece.

What is fleece? A bit of history.
Fleece was created in America in the 1970s by the Malden Mills company, the successor of which is known worldwide today as Polartec. They decided to find a solution that would have the heat-insulating properties of wool, but would get rid of such disadvantages as heavy weight, getting wet with loss of functionality and the need for resources to maintain the livestock industry. Such a solution was found – polyethylene terephthalate (PET or polyester) was synthesized for oil, gave it a three-dimensional fiber structure, and obtained a light and warm material that does not absorb moisture – fleece.

Jackets made of such material, which we have received the informal name “Flisco”, are wear-resistant and do not require significant maintenance, unlike, for example, membrane fabrics, which require special washing and drying conditions. Polyester threads have hydrophobic properties, and the structure of the fiber creates air “pockets” that retain heat, because, as you know, air itself has low thermal conductivity and helps retain heat. A fleece layer has long become an integral part of the equipment of the soldiers of the world’s leading armies. Products made of this material weigh little and do not take up much space, which allows you to arrange layers of clothing depending on the temperature and loads.

The most popular manufacturers, such as the above-mentioned Polartec, can offer different fleece fiber structures according to the tasks: for example, due to the danger of the fabric melting in contact with open fire or hot fragments, the company specially developed a fire-resistant fabric for the US military, and now this the technology is used in the production of clothing for the military, rescuers, firefighters and those who perform other dangerous tasks
